Very often the steadicam pans away from the character to allow the audience to project thought onto the imaginary. Between the vignettes are tableaux shots that reduce the plane of the image to a single dimension, i.e. intensity. The top angle shot towards the end transforms this intensity into a geographical location, so that the purpose of cinema, according to this writer, is simply for a body to\u00a0<em>occupy<\/em>\u00a0space&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Film maker P.S. Vinothraaj uses the point-of-view shot to connect different characters as the camera follows them much like in a video game. The point-of-view shot denotes a perceptional consciousness i.e. that of wakefulness; whilst the characters appear at rest, in motion or static in a moving vehicle. The film\u2019s cinematography is reminiscent of Gus Van Sant\u2019s\u00a0<em>Elephant<\/em>, but is different in one respect. Whereas\u00a0<em>Elephant<\/em>\u00a0centres on the high-school shooting as key event,\u00a0<em>Pebbles<\/em>\u00a0creates vignettes around the notion of the absence of the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a class=\"button big orange\" href=\"https:\/\/filmcriticscircle.com\/journal\/pebbles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">read FILM ESSAY<\/a><\/p>\n[divider size=&#8221;1&#8243;][\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;bounceInLeft&#8221;]\n<h2 class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/filmcriticscircle.com\/journal\/bela\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bela<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmcriticscircle.com\/journal\/author\/devdutt_trivedi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devdutt Trivedi<\/a> | April 15<\/p>\n<p>Basu\u2019s approach is to transform time into speed and slowness through changing the shutter speed of his camera; whilst simultaneously fragmenting space into light and dark. In this way parts of the frame are static and moving, or light and dark. The multiple exposures create a\u00a0<em>divination of time<\/em>, which is simultaneously moving when still, and still when moving.
